The Long Term Survival Guide for Moving to London in 2023

The United Kingdom has traditionally been a favorite location for expats searching for a fresh start. ‘Expats searching for work in the financial sector can find a wide range of options in London, the country’s metropolis. There are large expat populations in the UK’s other main cities and towns and in the country’s more rural locations.

Visa and Passport are the most important things in order to migrate to UK. Immigration procedures, Brexit, and other issues must be considered before moving to the United Kingdom with your family.

What Brexit Means for You and Your Future

People in Great Britain decided to exit the European Union in a referendum held in June 2016. Many of the mutual benefits of membership will be lost if the United Kingdom quits the EU. This includes freedom of movement for EU nationals into the United Kingdom and freedom of movement for United Kingdom citizens into Europe.

Paperwork for Your Visa

Are you aware of the procedures for bringing your family to the United Kingdom? To enter the UK without a visa, EU/EFTA nationals can do so if they are employed, self-employed, or registered as job-seeker and have the right to stay in the UK. There are several additional countries where citizens can enter and remain in the UK without a visa for up to six months. If unsure, you may look up the UK’s requirements for obtaining a work visa on the official government website.

Get a home

The United Kingdom offers a startling array of options when looking for a place to call home. What kind of home are you looking for in the city of London? Or how about a quaint little hamlet in the highlands of Wales? The United Kingdom boasts various housing alternatives to fit any budget.

Start Your Job Search

Having a work offer in hand is a common motivator for expats to move to the United Kingdom. With no guarantee of work in the UK, many people opt to move there and search for a job. Although there are substantial geographical differences in career prospects, expatriates in the UK have many options for finding work.

Improve your English

English, the country’s official language, contributes to the UK’s appeal to ex-pats. For those who aim to work in the UK, it may be worthwhile to brush up your English. When moving to Wales, you may even wish to learn the language, too. Regardless of whether you want to improve your English for social or professional reasons, we have a course for you.

Open an Account

If you’re migrating to the UK to work, you’ll want to open a bank account immediately. I don’t recommend shutting your current account in your home country, but you should create a report in the UK to minimize foreign exchange losses and make things easier.

Conveniences of Migrating To London

There are numerous benefits of living in London.

1. Opportunities for Employment

Although Brexit and the epidemic have impacted the UK economy recently, it is still significantly better than other European countries.

Finding work in the UK has never been a problem for me. When I relocated to a new nation, I began working in the hotel industry, one of the most accessible fields for newcomers.

2. Ethnic Diversity

As an ex-pat, it’s essential to know that the UK is home to many nationalities. You want to be at a place where you’ll be accepted and greeted with a smile.

With its many international restaurants and pubs, festivals like the Notting Hill Carnival, and varied population, London is an ethnically diverse city. Ethnic and racial diversity abounds in cities like Birmingham and Leeds, for example.

Learning about different cultures, trying new foods, picking up a language, and making new friends are all made easier when you live in a multiethnic community.

3. Nature and City Life in Harmony

It is possible to locate magnificent natural places even in industrial cities like Manchester and Birmingham. Great Britain features some of the world’s most spectacular woodlands and national parks.

All the cities I’ve visited in the United Kingdom have beautiful, large green parks where friendly squirrels can be found leaping and jumping in the trees. Get-together with friends at the park on a bright day is a terrific way to spend time outside.

Drawbacks of Moving To London

Although living in the United Kingdom has many perks, it’s not all rainbows and sunshine!

1. Living Expenses

The budget of living in the United Kingdom isn’t the cheapest in Europe, and you can see that by looking at the average cost of rent or a meal.

To stay within your financial means when visiting the United Kingdom, you may want to look at other cities (such as Sheffield, Glasgow or Newcastle) instead of London (the country’s most expensive city).

Traveling by rail is another thing I’ve always considered too pricey! Experiencing new places and cultures is a joy when you relocate to a new country.

2. London’s Weather

A common misconception about British weather is that it’s usually rainy and rarely sunny. Even if this is somewhat accurate, the UK has seen less snow in the winter and more heatwaves in the summer due to climate change.

Preparing for four seasons in a day is essential, especially during the transition from winter to spring. I had to learn this hard, and I’ll tell you why. When it comes to weather, the day might begin with a cloudy and wet start, shift to a bright afternoon, and end with a rainstorm.

3. Brexit

When I first arrived in the UK in September 2015, Brexit was not a concern. In June 2016, 52% of Britons voted to leave the EU. Even though Brexit is still a long way off, most of the adjustments occurred in January 2021.

To Put It Succinctly

For a multitude of reasons, moving to London is a smart move. And it may be the most acceptable life decision you’ve ever made.

To make your dreams come true in a new place, do your research, prepare an appropriate budget, and begin the visa application procedure as soon as possible.
